Carlingwark Loch is a freshwater lake in the Scottish Lowlands. It is located just south of Castle Douglas in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway and is easily accessible by car via the A75 .
Carlingwark Loch is about a kilometer long and 300 meters wide. Remains of a human settlement from the Iron Age have been discovered in the lake . Carlingwark Loch is best known for its rich population of wild birds, some of which are rare. Those who are interested can observe the bird life on the lake from a bird observation post that was set up especially in 2008. Carlingwark Loch has been declared a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its biodiversity and prehistoric finds .
