Carlo Ratti

Carlo Ratti (* 1971 in Turin ) is an Italian architect and engineer.

Life

He is a graduate of the Politecnico di Torino and the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris, and also holds an M.Phil. And Ph.D. degree from Cambridge University . Ratti is co-author of over 200 publications and holder of several patents. His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Disseny Hub Barcelona, ​​the Science Museum in London, the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts in San Francisco and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. His digital water pavilion at the 2008 World Fair in Zaragoza was named one of the best inventions of the year by Time Magazine.

In June 2007 Ratti was appointed by the Italian Minister of Culture as a member of the Italian Design Council, an advisory committee of the Italian government made up of 25 leading figures from the Italian design industry. In 2009, he was also named Inaugural Innovator in Residence for the Australian state of Queensland. It was also featured in publication 60: Innovators Shaping Our Creative Future and was featured on Esquire Magazine's 2008 Best & Brightest list. In 2010 Blueprint magazine selected him as one of the most influential people in the future of design ("25 People Who Will Change the World of Design") and in 2011 he was named one of Forbes' "Most Important Names of the Year". He lectured at TED and is a member of the Global Agenda Council for Urban Management at the World Economic Forum.

He works in Italy and teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he also directs the Senseable City Lab .
