Carlos Vaz Ferreira
Carlos Vaz Ferreira (born October 15, 1872 in Montevideo , † January 3, 1958 ) was a Uruguayan philosopher , lawyer and writer .
Live and act
Vaz Ferreira was rector of the Universidad de la República , the largest university in Uruguay , from 1928 to 1930 . He had to retire from this office for health reasons. In 1935, however, he was re-elected rector unanimously and held this position until 1941. During this time he openly fought for the independence of the university during the dictatorship of Gabriel Terras . Since the establishment of the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación from 1945 to 1949, he was also dean of this faculty. 1952 to 1958 followed two more terms in this position.
He was the older brother of the writer María Eugenia Vaz Ferreira .
