Carlton Tavern (state 2007)

Carlton Tavern was a public house on Carlton Vale, Kilburn , in the City of Westminster in London . The building was built from 1920 to 1921 according to plans by Frank J. Potter for the Charrington Brewery . It was demolished on April 8, 2015 without permission. On April 29, 2015, the local administration ordered the faithful reconstruction of the building that was on the list of proposals for listed buildings ( Grade II ) before the demolition .

history

The Carlton Tavern, destroyed in 2015, was the second inn with that name on the site. The first Carlton Tavern probably originated in the 1860s and was bombed by a German zeppelin on May 1, 1918 during World War I and destroyed as a result. Frank J. Potter built the new Vernacular Revival style building in 1920-21 at a cost of £ 11,610  . In contrast to most of the surrounding buildings from the 19th century, the structure survived the Second World War .

construction

The building consisted of red and brown bricks that were built in a block bond. The facade on the ground floor was made of stone-colored, unglazed terracotta and brown ox-blood-colored glazed tiles. The lettering was made of tile and terracotta, and the roof was that of clay tiles.

The floor plan was V-shaped and the building had two and a half stories and a basement. The escapes consisted of three fields. The roof was a mansard roof towards the Calton Vale . On the side of the playground, the single-storey wing was provided with a pent roof.

The windows had wooden profile frames made of oak.
