Carly Hibberd (born May 11, 1985 in Sherwood , Queensland , Australia ; † July 6, 2011 in Lurate Caccivio , Italy ) was an Australian cyclist .

Life

Hibberd was on a scholarship to the Queensland Academy of Sport for two years . There she first did athletics . She was a runner until she started cycling. From 2006 to 2008 she drove for Team MBCycles, finished second in the overall standings of the Tour de Perth women in 2008 and won the title in the Australian road racing series. Hibberd drove for the Italian team SC Michela Fanini Record Rox from 2009 to 2010 and switched to the Cassina Rizzardi A Style Fionucci team shortly before her death.

Hibberd collided with a car on July 6, 2011 during training in Italy between Appiano Gentile and Lurate Caccivio and died at the scene of the accident.

Hibberd was engaged and planned to get married in October 2011.
