Carnival in Coal was a French duo founded in 1997 by Arno Strobel and Axel Wursthorn in Amiens and active until 2007 . The two musicians had known each other from different bands since 1989.

The aim of the musicians was to act as the “missing link” between Mr. Bungle and Pan-Thy-Monium .

history

After Carnival in Coal had released their first album Vivalavida in 1998 , their cover album French Cancan appeared shortly afterwards with cover versions of songs by Ozzy Osbourne , Morbid Angel , Genesis and Michael Sembello, among others .

In 2001 Fear Not Carnival In Coal was released , which musically tied back to the first album.

After four years the album Collection Prestige was released through a sub-label of Earache Records , which showed Carnival in Coal much harder. The band got support for the recordings from musicians from metal bands such as DragonForce , Heavenly or Wormfood . With Living In The Plastic Age ( The Buggles ) a cover version was represented again.

Carnival in Coal only had its very first live appearance in April 2006. The actual duo was reinforced by other musicians.

In September 2007 the band announced their breakup.

style

Carnival in Coal processed various influences from extreme metal , electronic music , pop to country in their music , all garnished with weird humor. Arno Strobel was active as a singer, who covered the spectrum from melodic singing to screaming to deep growls , while Axel Wursthorn was responsible for the musical implementation as a multi-instrumentalist .
