Life

Carole Gallagher was born on February 24, 1923, the first of four children to a family of lawyers in San Francisco. She grew up in Santa Monica and had an early desire to become an actress. After graduating from high school, she went to Hollywood to take acting classes.

Gallagher's film career began in 1942 with a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer , which initially brought her only minor supporting roles. Gallagher got her first major role in 1943 in The Falcon and the Co-eds . 1943 followed another important supporting role in Girl Crazy on the side of Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland . In 1944 she starred in The Falcon Out West , which was part of the same film series as The Falcon and the Co-eds . In the same year, Gallagher ended her film career on short notice to take care of her family.

Gallagher married the actor Dick Foran in January 1943 . Their son Sean was born on February 14, 1944. Only a few months later, however, the marriage was divorced again in September 1944. After affairs with Howard Hughes and the actor Craig Lawrence, she married the actor Jimmie Ferrara on November 27, 1946.

In 1947, Gallagher returned to the big screen after a three-year hiatus. After several other supporting roles, Gallagher made her last film with You were our comrade in 1949, only to finally withdraw into private life.

Gallagher's marriage to Ferrara ended in divorce in the early 1950s. She married a third time in the late 1950s, but divorced again a few years later. She had a fourth and final marriage in 1964 with World War II veteran Leroy Vincent McPeek. Carole Gallagher died in Los Angeles on August 29, 1966 at the age of only 43. Nothing is known about the cause of death. Her widower Leroy Vincent McPeek died less than a year later on May 21, 1967.
