Carrer del Calvari is a staircase in Pollença on the Spanish Mediterranean island of Mallorca .

The stairs lead over 365 steps from the center of Pollença to the northwest on the Calvary to the Eglésia del Calvari chapel located there .

In 1860, Guillem Cerdà Cànaves (1815–1887) acquired the property in the area of the Calvary and left part of the site to the city of Pollença so that they could build the stairs as access to the chapel. Construction was carried out in several stages and was completed in 1907. The upper section shows stylistic elements of neoclassicism and was created as early as the 19th century. The levels of this part are lower. In this area the staircase is lined with cypress trees.

The stairs were declared a tourist attraction in the presence of the Spanish royal couple.

Every Good Friday a procession leads from the chapel down the stairs to the parish church.

Individual evidence

  1. El Calvari Pollença -Mallorca- , Confraria del Sant Crist del Calvari, leaflet, indicates, probably incorrectly, the 18th century.
  2. El Calvari Pollença -Mallorca- , Confraria del Sant Crist del Calvari, leaflet, gives the year 1967 as the date. At this point in time, however, there was no royal couple, so that the date is probably incorrect.
