Carsten Schmidt (Manager)

Carsten Schmidt (born October 10, 1963 in Lüneburg ) is a German manager . From 2015 to 2019 he was Chairman of the Management Board of Sky Deutschland GmbH and currently works there as a Senior Advisor.

Professional background

Carsten Schmidt was CEO of Sky Deutschland GmbH from 2015 to 2019. Before his appointment to the board of Sky Deutschland, he had been the head of sports for the media company since 1999. Before that, the graduate in business administration was managing director of Marketing and Television at WIGE Media for four years .

Under Schmidt's leadership, Sky Deutschland produced the first Sky Originals, such as Babylon Berlin , Das Boot , Der Pass und 8 Tage .

Before being appointed Chairman of the Management Board, he was Chief Officer Sports, Advertising Sales & Internet at Sky Deutschland AG (since 2006) and Program Manager at Sky Austria . In these functions he established, among other things, Germany's only 24-hour sports news broadcaster Sky Sport News HD , expanded relations with the German Football League (DFL) and opened up new business areas with the marketer Sky Media.

Schmidt initiated several high-profile campaigns at Sky. Since the beginning of 2017, he has been actively promoting measures against the increasing amount of plastic waste in the oceans with the company-wide Sky Ocean Rescue initiative. In February 2019, Schmidt signed the Berlin declaration “Together against homophobia. For diversity, respect and acceptance in sport ”.

Schmidt was also a board member of the Sky Foundation from 2008 to 2015.
