Cartland Bridge Hotel
The Cartland Bridge Hotel , formerly Baronald , is a hotel in the Scottish town of Lanark in the Council Area of South Lanarkshire . In 1992 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A.
history
The building was completed in 1891 as a villa for Allan Farie of Farme . Farie had entrusted the Scottish architect John James Burnet with the planning. It was to remain the most extensive new building in the architect's overall work. In the meantime, a hotel, the Cartland Bridge Hotel , has been set up in the Villa Baronald .
description
The Cartland Bridge Hotel is isolated in a wood about 300 meters northwest of Lanark near the right bank of Mouse Water . It is a large building in the Scottish Baronial style . As is typical for the architectural style, the building does not have a uniform height and is constructed asymmetrically. The south-west exposed front is three-story and designed with two dormer windows. The entrance area is located in a projecting component with a stepped gable . A beveled recess emerges behind it . The edges of the three to four-story building sections are designed with cantilevered corner towers. Massive gable-end chimneys tower from the final gable roofs . The gables are made as a stepped gable.
