The Habermannsee belongs next to the Elsensee and Butzer Lake linking Berlin Kaulsdorfer lakes . The body of water lies in the 95 hectare nature reserve "Kaulsdorfer Seen" between the districts of Kaulsdorf and Mahlsdorf .
landscape
The area around the Habermannsee is valuable for the protection of nature and landscape, as it has a very diverse vegetation, which includes natural forest, willow bushes and meadows as well as banks overgrown with reeds and some mighty pastures . The common fish species found in the lakes are eel , pike and roach .
Emergence
The Habermannsee was originally built at the end of the 1940s as a gravel pit, from which sand and gravel were removed for the new development areas in Marzahn-Hellersdorf . After the dismantling stopped and all machines were removed, the pit filled with groundwater and rainwater for some time. Today the Habermannsee is a natural biotope in which many animals and plants live.
use
The Kaulsdorf Lakes area is used by the Kaulsdorf waterworks , which was built in 1916 and is located on the western edge of the Habermannsee, for pumping groundwater, which influences the water level in the lakes. As a result, the eastern part of the Habermannsee is separated from the western part by a narrow peninsula when the groundwater level is low; the result is the Kiessee, which is partially viewed as an independent lake. In addition, the forest area of the Kaulsdorfer Busch, which is made up of poplars , pines and spruces , is used for forestry.
In the summer months, the Habermannsee is used as a bathing lake, although it is designated as a drinking water protection area.
Sports
The cross-country run "Around the Kaulsdorf Lakes" takes place twice a year . The route leads around both the Butzer See and the Habermannsee.
