The Butzer Lake is one alongside the Elsensee and Habermannsee linking Kaulsdorfer lakes . The body of water is located in a 95  hectare nature reserve in the Berlin district of Kaulsdorf .

landscape

The area around the Butzer See is valuable for the protection of nature and landscape, as it has a very diverse vegetation with near-natural forest, willow bushes, meadows and banks overgrown with reed beds and some mighty pastures . The common fish species found in the lake are eel , pike and roach .

Emergence

The Butzer See was originally built in the mid-1930s as a gravel pit, from which sand and gravel were removed for the new development areas. It was named after the Heinrich Butzer construction company who used it. After the dismantling stopped and all machines were removed, the pit filled with groundwater and rainwater for some time. Today the Butzer See is a natural biotope in which many animals and plants live.

use

The Kaulsdorf Lakes area is used by the Kaulsdorf waterworks , which was built in 1916 and is located on the western edge of the Habermannsee , for pumping groundwater, which influences the water level of all lakes. In addition, the forest area of the Kaulsdorfer Busch, which is made up of poplars , pines and spruces , is used for forestry.

In the summer months, the Butzer See is used as a swimming lake, although it is designated as a drinking water protection area.

Sports

The cross-country run "Around the Kaulsdorf Lakes" takes place twice a year . The route leads around both the Butzer See and the Habermannsee .
