The Casa Heredia in Graus , the capital of the Comarca Ribagorza in the province of Huesca in the Spanish autonomous community of Aragon , is an 18th century city palace of the Heredia family. The building stands next to the town hall and, together with other city palaces, forms part of a building ensemble ( conjunto arquitectónico ) on the Plaza Mayor . In 2004 the building was declared a Bien catalogado del patrimonio cultural aragonés (Listed Aragonese Cultural Property). Today the administration of the Comarca Ribagorza ( Consejo Comarcal de Ribagorza ) is housed in the building.

history

The Casa Heredia was created by merging several buildings. The original palace goes back to Ignacio de Heredia y Alamán, a close confidante of the Count of Aranda , who had the family residence built in the middle of the 17th century. However, this building was completely changed by the later renovations. Vicente Heredia, a scientist and geographer, had the current building built around 1780. In 1828 the paintings on the facade and under the roof were carried out, which the painter Teótimo de Heredia completed. In 1939 the sundial was painted to replace an existing, older one. From 2006 to 2008, the building was completely renovated. The interior was almost completely gutted and the upper floors were completely renovated. The paintings on the facade have also been restored.

architecture

The three-story building has a square floor plan. The arcades on the ground floor rest on hexagonal stone pillars. The two upper floors are divided by three balconies each.

sundial

In the middle of the first floor is a sundial with a symbolic representation of the sun and the Greek letters alpha and omega . A painted cornice runs between the first and second floors . Blossoms, fruits and leaf tendrils are depicted on the fields between the windows, the windows are framed by a painted decoration. There are eleven pictures under the roof. The seven middle pictures depict scenes from the parable of the prodigal son , the four outer pictures depict allegories of the four seasons. Both the characters in the biblical parable and the allegorical figures of the seasons are dressed in contemporary clothing.
