The Hradec Kralove Airport , Czech Hradec Králové is one in the north of the northeastern Czech town of Hradec Kralove / Königgrätz in the same district situated Czech civilian special airport.

history

Before the occupation of the country by Nazi Germany in 1939, Hradec Králové served the Czechoslovak Air Forces as a flight school on a variety of aircraft types. Here was the 4th Air Regiment, equipped with fighter planes , with a bohemian lion in blue on a white field, including a training squadron.

After the invasion of the German Wehrmacht , it served as a first-order port of operations for the Luftwaffe until the end of the war as a school for air intelligence (Luftnachrichtenschule 2). There were also training regiments in Königgrätz.

For a while, especially in 1939 and towards the end of the war, flying units were also located here. The III equipped with Do 17Z . Group of Kampfgeschwader 77 (III./KG 77) was stationed here from the beginning of May to October 1939.

Flight operations picked up again in the last half of the war. Initially, the Bf 109G of Group II of Kampfgeschwader 30 (II./KG 30) lay here from November 1944 to January 1945 . From March 1945 Königgrätz served as a starting point for an airlift into the Silesian Breslau , which was encircled by the Red Army and which was maintained by two He 111H groups of Kampfgeschwaders 4 (KG 4). In the last weeks of the war the remains of various other associations operated from Königgrätz.

During the Cold War , the airfield was used by the air forces of the Czechoslovak People's Army as a military airfield . An air reconnaissance regiment , the 47th Pruzkumný Letecký Pluk (47th PzLP), was located here from November 1954 until the dissolution of Czechoslovakia at the end of 1992 . An overview of the aircraft types used by this regiment can be found on the page linked below about the 47th regiment.

After the unit was dissolved, the military use of the base was ended.
