Giovanni Verga

The Casa Museo Giovanni Verga in Catania is a literary museum in the birth house of the Italian writer Giovanni Verga , who as a novelist and writer of short stories, such as the Sicilian novellas , is one of the most important representatives of Italian naturalism.

The museum is located in the city center of Catania, on the second floor of a palace where Verga spent his childhood and later lived with his family for many years. After his last heir, Giovannino Verga Patriarca, died, the building was sold to the Sicily Region , which renovated it and turned it into a literary museum.

The interior is still original. In the library room there is a private library with about 2,600 volumes in six bookcases made of walnut wood. Copies of Verga's manuscripts can be seen in showcases, the originals are kept in the University Library of Catania.
