history

The construction of the manor in the style of an aristocratic mansion began in 1613 and was completed in 1633. The Areny-Plandolits family is an important family who worked in the iron and steel industry in Andorra between the 16th and 19th centuries and helped shape the history of the country of Andorra. Guillem Areny Vidal is named the first registered owner in the historical records. In the 17th century, Guillem Areny Torres was one of the leading suppliers of food to the Spanish Navy. The balconies on the facade were added in 1849.

Until the 1950s the manor was used as a national auditorium by the government of Andorra. The gardens of the house are unique in Andorra. It was the first garden with the aim to show only native vegetation. At the beginning of the 20th century a hotel began to be built in the gardens, before it was finished it was decided to turn it into an Andorran Museum of Natural Sciences . So today there are two museum complexes on the same property.
