Casa de Rivera - Museo Histórico Nacional

The Casa de Rivera, also Casa de Salvañach, is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The building, erected at the beginning of the 19th century, is located in Ciudad Vieja at Calle Rincón 437, corner of Misiones . In a second construction phase, an upper floor with a balcony was added to the initially only one-story house. Information about the architect is not available. While it was originally designed as the residential building of the Cristóbal Salvañach City Council and was inhabited by General Rivera from 1834 to 1849 , it is now owned by the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture (Ministerio de Educación y Cultura) and houses eight meters high, two-storey over Casa de Rivera, with an area of ​​897 m², is now the Museo Histórico Nacional . Around the beginning of the 1970s, structural changes were made by the Ministerio de Obras Públicas . Since 1975 the building has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional .
