Data Bank is a range of digital wristwatches made by the Japanese manufacturer Casio in the 1980s. In addition to a calculator function, some models had an appointment planner and an address book or more like the touch-screen model Casio VDB-1000 from 1991 with a telephone book, appointment planner, world map, note function and eight-digit calculator.

features

All Data Bank models have a calculator ( Calculator ). There was also a phone book in which 30 to 100 numbers could be stored and a calendar with a reminder function. The liquid crystal screens had matrix displays with seven segment displays . A buffer capacitor made it possible to change the battery without losing data, and some late models with EEPROM had non-volatile memories.

In the Casio DBX-100 model, the keyboard mat dissolved.

The Casio VDB-1000 touch display model was relatively complicated for everyday use. The filigree touchscreen elements were very small and difficult to use.

Successor and revival

The more comfortable mobile phone put an end to the development of the series. Since the mid-2000s, however, smartwatches have been outsourcing individual functions of the telephones such as parts of the display to a wirelessly connected watch and adding sensors and signal transmitters on the wrist.
