The Cason Montiron or Casone Montiron is a small island in the far north of the Venice lagoon . It has an area of 1,881 m² or 0.1881 ha . There is a single house on the island. This type of house is called Cason (e) di pesca . They serve the fishermen (pescatori) as accommodation, storage and landing stage for their boats. 'Casone', derived from 'casa', means 'big house'.

history

The islet, which is located near the confluence of the Canale Siloncello, had verifiably plowed land and meadows in 1556, so it was considerably larger. But with the construction of the Taglio nuovo on the Sile in the second half of the 17th century, there was severe erosion, which led to the fact that today's Valle da pesca Lanzoni lost its designation as Casone , as it is no longer one of one House consisted of the island acted.

In 1927 this Valle da pesca was opened to the lagunar floods by the Magistrato alle Acque , the authority responsible for water in Venice. In 1931 the boundaries could still be seen on a map, but they have largely been destroyed.

Today the island is still occasionally visited by fishermen and occasionally used as a camp by visitors to the northern lagoon.
