The island of Casone Barenon or Cason Barenon is located in the south of the Venice lagoon . It belongs to the municipality of Campagna Lupia and has an area of 1,639 m² or 0.1639 ha . It is located in the Valle di Barenon, at the exit of the Canale della Cavandola in the west of the lagoon. There is a single house on the island, but it has fallen into serious disrepair. This type of house is called Cason (e) di pesca ; these houses are considered to be the simplest and probably also the oldest structural structures on the islands. They serve the fishermen (pescatori) as accommodation, storage and landing stage for their boats. 'Casone', derived from 'casa', means 'big house'. The name was known by the middle of the 16th century at the latest, because it appears at Cristoforo Sabbadino , the representative for the Venetian waters.

The Casone Barenon was built between 1810 and 1840, making the poorly preserved building probably the oldest of its kind in the lagoon. Today the island is still occasionally visited by fishermen and now and then by visitors.

In the area around the island you can find numerous dunlins in some years , but the populations fluctuate extremely strongly, so that in some years no birds of this species were to be found.
