Caspana is a municipality in northern Chile and belongs to the province of El Loa in the Región de Antofagasta .
The place is located 85 km northeast of Calama at an altitude of 3200 m in the canyon of the Caspana River , a tributary of the Río Salado . The river with permanent water is used to irrigate the terraced fields. The main crops are pears, apples, apricots and prickly pears, as well as flowers.
In the higher, older part of the village is the church of San Lucas, built in 1641. It has been designated as a historical national monument of Chile since 1951.
In the village is the small Museo Etnográfico de Caspana with exhibits on the culture of the Atacameños . Archaeological finds such as tools and human skulls with artificial skull deformations are exhibited.
