Caspar Ecchienus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Caspar Ecchienus (* around 1550 , † around 1600 ) was probably a Norwegian composer . The name supposedly comes from a Latinization of the Norwegian name Ormestad . Nothing is known about his life.

Only one of his compositions has survived, namely a motet on Psalm 50 (51), verse 12: Cor mundum crea in me Deus for 4-part a cappella choir. The motet, which has numerous typesetting errors , is considered to be one of the first polyphonic works by a Norwegian composer.
