Castel Telvana

Castel Telvana is a castle , on a slope of the Monte Ciolino of the location north Borgo Valsugana in Trentino located. The strategically favorable location of the castle made it possible to control the traffic connection through the Valsugana , which has been important since antiquity , and which connected the Adige Valley with the eastern Po Valley .

History and description

The oldest core of the complex dates back to the 13th century and consists of a slender, square keep with a side length of five meters and a height of 26 meters.

The facility was expanded in several steps and adapted to the new fortification requirements of firearms by means of Vorwerk on the valley side by the 16th century .

The castle is now privately owned, so the interior cannot be visited. The ascent to the castle takes place on a narrow path from Borgo Valsugana.
