history

The area in which the fortress was built belongs to the foothills of Monte Albano . This area was mentioned under the name Castelletum as early as the Roman Empire .

The fortifications were built around the 10th century and, after the French conquered the Republic of Genoa at the end of the 14th century, served as the official residence of the French governor .

After Genoa became independent again in 1528, the fortress Castelletto was demolished by the Genoese as a symbol of foreign rule.

In 1821 the castle was rebuilt by the Savoy and finally razed to the ground during the popular uprising of 1849. In the years that followed, the territory was parceled out and sold to private individuals as land.
