The Castello Ducale , also Palazzo Ducale Bassi-D'Alanno , is a hilltop castle at the highest point of the Italian municipality of Carpineto Sinello in the province of Chieti .

history

The original facility dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt in the 16th and 18th centuries. The fortress, home of the feudal lords , gradually took shape as a fortified palace until Michele Bassi wanted to make changes to the palace according to his needs. The building was built around an existing medieval tower with a square floor plan.

In the 18th and 19th centuries the castle belonged to the Bassi and D'Alanno families together with the Valignanis from Chieti .

Today, after years of neglect, the facility is under restoration, but work has been on hold since 2011 for economic and bureaucratic reasons.

description

This main attraction of the village with medieval origins can be found in Via Salita Castello on the top of a hill, together with the Chapel of St. Michael , today's parish church of Carpineto Sinello.

The complex is made up of different, combined structures, including the tower with sloping walls, the palace and an inner courtyard. The building materials used are limestone and sandstone . In the palace there are wall paintings and stucco decorations on the cornice on the courtyard side. The south side is divided horizontally in the upper area by a cornice. A gun and some stucco decorations in the form of angels have been preserved on this side . A ramp leads to the inner courtyard; some rooms, which were used as stables in the past, face the inner courtyard and a large gate leads to the actual courtyard.
