Castillo de Valencia de Don Juan
The Castillo de Valencia de Don Juan is a castle in Valencia de Don Juan , a municipality in the province of León in the autonomous region of Castile and León ( Spain ), which was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. history
The castle, which is located on the site of a Roman fortification, was built for John of Portugal from the end of the 14th century . From the medieval complex, three defense towers are still preserved in the southern part. Restoration work
The castle, which is owned by the Fundación Instituto Valencia de Don Juan , has been extensively rebuilt and restored in recent decades:

- 1987/88: Archaeological excavations and renovations
- 2004/05: renovation of the main tower and reconstruction of the entrance area
museum
In 2008 a museum was opened in the main tower ( Torre del Homenaje ), which shows the archaeological finds from the excavations and presents the history of the castle.
