Castle Leslie is a country house on a 4 km² estate near the village of Glaslough , 11 km northeast of Monaghan in County Monaghan, Ireland .

description

Sir John Leslie, 1st Baronet , MP , had the house built in 1870 in the Scottish Baronial style by the construction company Lanyon, Lynn and Lanyon . It replaced an earlier castle at this point, but was never used for defensive purposes. Castle Leslie has a rather rigid, austere facade and was built to hide the gardens from incoming visitors. Behind the house, these gardens are in the style of Renaissance - cloister created and connect the main house with a ground floor annex building in which the library and which billiard room are located. In contrast to the exterior appearance of the house, which was designed by William Henry Lynn , the interior shows the hands of Lanyon and the builder John Leslie himself, who were inspired by the Italian Renaissance.

Sir Jack Leslie, 4th Baronet, (December 6, 1916 - April 16, 2016) returned to Castle Leslie at the age of 78; the main owner is now Samantha Leslie. Other family members secured their influence on the running of the property through a family trust .
