Castle of Fiddes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Castle of Fiddes is a 16th century tower block about 6 km southwest of Stonehaven in the Scottish county of Aberdeenshire .

The year of construction 1592 can be found on a lintel; on the east wall is the year 1673, probably the year of the renovation. The residential tower belonged to the Arbuthnott family , who later sold it to the Thomson von Arduthie family at the end of the 17th century . The tower was modernized around 1930 and is still inhabited. Historic Scotland has listed Castle of Fiddes as a Category A Historic Building.

The four-story tower has an unusual variant of the L-shaped floor plan with a large spiral staircase and several protruding tourelles that are supported by consoles .
