Castle of Park , also Park Hay , Park o 'Luce , Park Castle or Park House , is a tower house near the Scottish village of Glenluce in the Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . In 1972 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. It was also classified as a Scheduled Monument until 2001 . The protection area was redefined this year and no longer includes the Tower House.

history

Beginning in 1590, construction of Castle of Park was completed over the course of the decade. The builder was Thomas Hay , son of the abbot of the nearby Glenluce Abbey . Park Castle was at times the ancestral home of a branch of Clan Hay . Around 1830, James Dalrymple-Hay, 2nd Baronet, moved the clan seat to Dunragit House . John Dalrymple-Hay, 3rd Baronet, sold the property in 1875. Two 18th century wings were probably demolished in the second half of the 20th century. Towards the end of the century, the Tower House was extensively restored.
