description
The villa was built around 1870 for the merchant Robert Young . The brothers Alexander and George Thomson are responsible for the planning .
Castlehill is on Nithsdale Road in the south Pollokshields district of Glasgow . The one to two-story villa is designed in the distinctive Thomsonian Egyptian-Greek style. It has an irregular floor plan and is not constructed symmetrically. The masonry consists of hewn and polished stone blocks. Various windows are decorated with pilasters . Flat extensions go off on both sides. The overhanging, slate-covered roofs have a flat slope. Castlehill shows numerous design parallels with the adjacent Thomson Villa Ellisland .
