Cat Fanciers' Association

The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) is an American organization for cat breeding with headquarters in Alliance, Ohio (before 2006 in Manasquan, New Jersey).

It is currently led by Stephen K. Pryor and describes itself as the world's largest family tree association. The aim of the CFA is to breed cats to obtain and disseminate and to serve the welfare of all cats.

The CFA was founded in 1906 and held two exhibitions that year, one in Buffalo , New York and one in Detroit , Michigan . In 2004, around 400 exhibitions were held worldwide under the terms of the CFA. The CFA recognizes 37 breeds in championship status and another 4 can be issued.

Services

The CFA offers a range of services to cat breeders, pedigree cat owners, and the general public. One of them is the issuing of pedigrees of registered cats, which prove the ancestors of the respective animal for 3 to 6 generations.

Other activities

The CFA creates breed standards and breeding guidelines, trains judges for exhibitions, promotes controlled cat breeders, supports research into the field of cat health and makes it public, influences legislation, supports the elimination of misfortunes and breed conservation programs, publishes books and magazines and informs the public about topics related to cats.
