Cautio Treuhand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cautio Treuhand GmbH was a sham, a private holding company . In fact, it was an instrument of the Reich Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda , Joseph Goebbels . Its founder and director was Max Winkler .

On behalf of the National Socialist state, it bought the majority of shares in all film production companies from 1933 to 1942. If necessary, this could also be achieved with the inclusion of political pressure, such as in the case of the Austrian Tobis-Sascha-Filmindustrie AG .

When the film industry was completely nationalized in 1942, the newly founded UFA-Film GmbH (UFI), managed by Reichsfilmintendant Fritz Hippler , acted as the umbrella company for 11 subsidiaries, including UFA-Filmkunst , Terra-Filmkunst , Tobis-Filmkunst , Bavaria-Filmkunst , Vienna -Film , Prague-Film and Continental-Film. The Cautio continued to function as a trust company.
