The Cedar Lake is located at the lower reaches of Saskatchewan River flowing through it, immediately before its mouth into the Winnipeg . The water level of Cedar Lake is regulated by the Grand Rapids Dam . The lake is popular with amateur fishermen (e.g. eyeglasses or American pikeperch ( Sander vitreus ) ).
On the west bank of the lake, a little south of the mouth of the Saskatchewan River, there is a site for fossil-bearing amber from the Cretaceous age. The amber from this deposit is known as chemawinite .
