Cedric Adderley

Cedric Adderley (* in Columbia , South Carolina ) is an American music teacher and composer.

Adderley studied music education at East Carolina University and composition with Dick Goodwin , Samuel Douglas , Fred Teuber, and Loretta Jankowski at the University of South Carolina . He is head of the music department at Claflin University in Orangeburg, where he teaches music theory and composition.

He composed a. a. Chamber music works, drama music and orchestral works, as well as pieces for classroom use. In 1997 he was named Composer of the Year by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for his First Symphony . In 2000 he was named Composer of the Year by the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and the National Band Association honored him with a Citation of Excellence . Adderley's works have been a. performed by the Augusta Symphony , the Florence Symphony , the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Rutgers Philharmonia .
