Serious attempts have been made since 1997 to connect Nauru to the Internet. Thanks to the new telecommunications system in Nauru, which includes a satellite connection, and a joint venture between Nauru Telecom Corporation and the Nauru Phosphate Royalties Trust , CenpacNet was established in 1998.
