The Centaur Bluff is a steep, 2,100 m high-altitude cliff in the Antarctic Ross Dependency . On the east side of the Surveyors Range in the Transantarctic Mountains , it rises 7 km west of Mount Canopus .
Participants in a campaign carried out by the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition from 1960 to 1961 named it after the Alpha Centauri binary star system , which they used as a fixed point for surveying work .
