Research areas

Women in Early Phenomenology

The focus of the research area "Women in the Early Phenomenology" is on women in the early phenomenology movement , in particular on the Munich-Göttingen phenomenologists Gerda Walther and Hedwig Conrad-Martius , who, alongside Edith Stein, contributed to the development of phenomenology as a philosophical discipline. Part of the research is the transcription and translation of the unpublished manuscripts from the estate of Gerda Walther and Hedwig Conrad-Martius into English and their preparation for publication.

Projects on Emilie Du Châtelet

Émilie du Châtelet was a French philosopher, physicist and mathematician of the Early Enlightenment who dealt with the theories of Isaac Newton and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz on physics, among other things . The project Du Châtelet's Foundations of Physics is to be understood as a guide and reading aid for her main work Institutions de Physique (1740/42), with the aim of making the work accessible to a wider audience.

The research area "Emilie Du Châtelet between Leibniz and Kant" is dedicated to researching Châtelet as a mediator between the theories of Leibniz and Kant . The project was part of the international Libori Summer School.

The project “The St Petersburg Manuscripts” is a cooperation between the Center and the Russian National Library . The Open Commons project provides the Châtelet manuscripts, which are kept in the Voltaire collection of the Russian National Library.
