Ruth Hagengruber (* 1958 in Regen ) is a German philosopher. She is Professor of Philosophy at the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the University of Paderborn .

From 1979 to 1985 Ruth Hagengruber studied philosophy, the history of natural sciences, Byzantine studies and ancient church history at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich with a master's degree on Plato's philosophy. 1989 followed a year of research at the Biblioteca Nazionale and at the Istituto per gli Studi Filosofici in Naples, Italy. It was founded in 1993 at the Institute for Renaissance Philosophy of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich with the subject of knowledge. Point and similarity. After various guest lectureships abroad, she has been Professor of Practical Philosophy at the University of Paderborn since 2005. In 2006 she founded the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists teaching and research department , which is dedicated to researching the texts of women philosophers from ancient times to the present day. In 2006 she founded the teaching and research department Philosophy and Computing , which was renamed 'EcoTechGender' in 2013. which is dedicated to the history of philosophical traditions as well as the social and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence research. Ruth Hagengruber has been the managing director of philosophy at the University of Paderborn since 2007.

Ruth Hagengruber was Vice President of the German Society for French- Speaking Philosophy (1997–2002), Vice President of the European Society for Early Modern Philosophy ESEMP (2004–2007) and member of the board of the German Academic Federation DAB. In 2011 she was elected a Lifetime Member of the International Association of Computing and Philosophy I-ACAP; Since 2012 she has been a Member of the Advisory Board, Munich Center for Technology in Society, Technical University, Munich. In 2015 she received the Wiener Schmidt Prize of the Society for Cybernetics and Systems Theory. In 2015 she edited “The Monist: History of Women's Ideas” with Karen Green. In 2016 she became head of the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists research project funded by the NRW Ministry of Culture and Science . Since 2018, she has been awarding the Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize , donated by Prof. Ulrike Detmers, to honor the history of women philosophers. In 2016 she founded the series “Women in Philosophy and Science”. In 2018 she founded the series "Women in the History of Philosophy and Sciences" with Mary Ellen Waithe and Gianni Paganini.
