Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize

The Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize (Elisabeth von Böhmen Prize) is a prize awarded to recognize the achievements of women philosophers in the history of philosophy . The prize was donated by Ulrike Detmers, Professor of Economics at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences . The prize, which is awarded internationally, is endowed with € 3,000. The prize is awarded every year in cooperation with the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists under the direction of Ruth Hagengruber . It is named after Elisabeth of Bohemia , also known as Elisabeth of the Palatinate.

2018

The first prize winner in 2018 was Lisa Shapiro ( Simon Fraser University , Canada). The award was presented to her during the Elisabeth of Bohemia - Life and Legacy conference on the 400th anniversary of Elisabeth of Böhmen for her annotated English edition of the correspondence between René Descartes and Elisabeth of Böhmen.

The award committee was formed by Ruth Hagengruber ( University of Paderborn ), Sarah Hutton ( University of York ), Dominik Perler ( Humboldt University Berlin ) and Ulrike Detmers (University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld).

2019

The 2019 award winner was Mary Ellen Waithe, Cleveland State University, “for her outstanding work on the history of women philosophersA History of Women Philosophers . Mary Ellen Waithe is editor of the Encyclopedia of Concise Concepts by Women Philosophers and the Springer book series Women in the History of Philosophy and Science .

The committee consisted of Ruth Hagengruber (University of Paderborn), Sarah Hutton (University of York), Sabrina Ebbersmeyer ( University of Copenhagen ), Herta Nagl-Docekal ( University of Vienna ), Ulrike Detmers (Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences).
