The Central Bank of Egypt ( CBE ; Arabic البنك المركزي المصري, DMG al-bank al-markazī al-miṣrī ) is the central bank of Egypt .
According to its website, the responsibilities of the CBE include :
- the regulation of the Egyptian banking system .
- the design and implementation of Egyptian banking, monetary and credit policy, including interbank fees.
- the circulation of the banknotes .
- the supervision of the gold and foreign exchange reserves of the Arab Republic of Egypt .
- the regulation and supervision of the Egyptian presence in the foreign exchange exchange .
- the supervision of the national payment system .
- control of Egypt's public external debt .
