from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Centralværkstedet København ( German  central workshop Copenhagen - Cvk Kh) in the Danish capital of Copenhagen was founded 1847th In the repair shop , locomotives and cars are repaired and modernized.

history

The first workshop was organizationally subordinate to the machine department of Det Sjællandske Jernbaneselskab . In 1880 this company was taken over by the state and in 1885 the Danske Statsbaner (DSB) was founded.

Today's workshop at Otto Busses Vej was put into operation in 1909 and employed around 800 people at the time. In 1950 the number of employees had increased to 1,500.

Their original job was solely to repair locomotives and wagons. Over time, locomotives were converted.

workshops

Main hall with 9,000 square meters of the former Lokomotivværkstedet (Lokomotivwerkstatt) in Dybbølsbro in Sydhavnen, which is now used for events.

Some of the workshops were built before the official opening. Up until 1953, extensions were made as required.

During the construction period around the opening year, the following were available (year of construction in brackets):

  • Office and warehouse (1908)
  • Locomotive workshop (1907)
  • Boilermaker (1907)
  • Power plant (1908) - electricity, steam, compressed air and heat were generated here for the entire workshop, which were led through the building by cables. In the same building, bathrooms with a steam bath were set up for the employees.
  • Boiler house (1908)
  • Electrical workshop (1910) - the saddlery and tarpaulin workshop were in the same building. Seats for trains were made in the saddlery and curtains for cars were sewn in the tarpaulin workshop. Asbestos mats were also cut there for the insulation of locomotive boilers.
  • Car workshop (1910) - a joinery and woodworking machines were housed here.
  • Blacksmiths (1909)
  • Wood storage (after 1908)
  • Iron warehouse (1909)

The plant was expanded to include the following buildings:

  • Painter's workshop (1922) - later locomotives and wagons came to this hall. Today it is used by the Danish Railway Museum to maintain its museum trains in running order. The roof of this building burned down in 2007, and it was not possible to pull the wagons out of the hall. Despite the violent fire, they were only slightly damaged.
  • Compressed air workshop (1923)
  • Express railcar hall (1939) - the hall was only taken into use after the Second World War , as the high-speed trains were not used during the war.
  • Main camp (1940)
  • Canteen (1940) - hall with 800 seats, demolished in 2006.
  • Battery workshop (1951)
  • Office building (1953)

The largest area of the entire site comprised 48,996 m², of which 10,071 m² was built on.

The gule by

In connection with the central workshop, the DSB built a settlement with yellow-washed row houses with 33 rental apartments in 1909. Due to the color scheme, the settlement was called "Den gule by" ( German  "the yellow city" ).

Originally, the houses were the apartments of the crews of the DSB relief trains, so that they were quickly ready for use if they were needed in the event of derailments or accidents. In 2003, the residence obligation for employees was abolished and the renovated houses were rented out.

Future use

A restaurant and an event hall with over 3000 seats have been set up in the former locomotive workshop since January 2009.

Since part of the halls is no longer needed by the DSB, the Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademis Skoler for Architecture, Design and Conservation carried out an investigation into how these buildings can be re-used. Above all, the area of the wood store and the former paint shop was examined. The wood store is to be converted into workshops and studios for artists, while workshops for wood and metalworking and photo studios could be built in the paint shop.

For the rest of the area, urban planners are preparing a new concept under the title OBV ( Otto Busses Vej ) after the Danish State Railways have completely withdrawn from the site.

This deduction is to be made in connection with the delivery of the new DSB EB series electric locomotives . Then a new workshop for locomotives and railroad cars, especially for double-decker trains and newly purchased vehicles, is to be built in the Næstved region, which should be completed in 2025. Diesel locomotives are to be further repaired in Copenhagen.
