The DSB EB series are electric locomotives from the Danish state railways Danske Statsbaner .

The locomotives are based on the Vectron type from Siemens .

history

On March 13, 2018, DSB announced that 26 Vectron electric locomotives had been ordered from Siemens. To this end, an option to purchase up to 18 additional locomotives of this type was agreed.

This was preceded by the decision on August 23, 2016 to purchase 26 new electric locomotives, which are to be used mainly for double-decker trains and regional traffic on Zealand . They are also intended to replace the ME series diesel locomotives on the lines electrified by the time of delivery, which benefits both the environment and reliability. The new locomotives must come from a series that is already running and must therefore be tested in use.

At that time, the plan was to place the order in autumn 2016 in order to be able to use the first locomotives from early 2020. DSB was supposed to acquire the new locomotives without government funding. Series deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2021.

DSB had set a number of requirements for the tender:

  • "Standard Electric Locomotive" that can be used on both Danish, German and Swedish routes;
  • Maximum speed 200 km / h;
  • Push train control for the existing double-decker trains of the DSB;
  • Equipping with current and planned future safety devices in Denmark, Sweden and Germany;
  • Approval for traffic in Denmark and Germany.

Planned mission

From 2021, the new locomotives will mainly be used in regional traffic on Zealand with the 113 double-decker cars of DSB. From 2023, the locomotives will run in sandwich traction with the new DSB Talgo trains between Copenhagen and Hamburg.

Others

Siemens has overall responsibility for maintenance for ten years from delivery with an additional option for another five years.
