The locomotives of the ME (II) series with diesel-electric power transmission form the latest series of diesel locomotives for the Danske Statsbaner route service . A total of 37 copies were produced in two series.

The vehicles are technically closely related to the Di 4 of the Norwegian State Railways .

The locomotives have a beveled front with a one-piece windshield, the side walls are smooth and slightly bulbous, the engine room has four windows on each side. There is a sloping roof between the roof and the side wall. The locomotives have a large snow plow at the front, and indicators on the side to indicate that they are ready to leave.

The locomotives are capable of multiple traction and push-pull trains.

modernization

In the course of the operational problem with the multiple units of the MG series (IC4), the DSB were forced to continue to use the environmentally polluting ME series locomotives in the Copenhagen area in 2010. The pollution from the diesel locomotives far exceeded the emissions for trucks in Copenhagen. This is why EMD has procured so-called emission kits for 20 of the existing locomotives in the United States, which reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) pollution by around 34 percent and soot (particulate) pollution by 37 percent. The amount of unburned oil in the exhaust gas is also reduced.

After the conversion, the locomotives meet the standard of the American environmental authority EPA Tier 0 Regulation 40 CFR Part 20 .

The locomotives not used in the Copenhagen region were initially not converted. In 2016, all locomotives still in existence were equipped with the emissions kit.

Retirement

  • ME 1502 was parked at Maskindepot København Gb ( Godsbanegård ) from 2013 to 2016 and was sold to Børge Kristiansen & Søn A / S for scrapping in 2016.
  • ME 1507 had been parked in Cvk Kh ( Centralværkstedet København ) since 2012 and was sold to Børge Kristiansen & Søn A / S for scrapping in 2016.
  • ME 1510 was retired on March 24, 2006 after a fire on November 30, 2005 in Høje Taastrup. To obtain spare parts, the locomotive was in the Cvk Kh from 2006 to 2007 and was scrapped there in 2007.
