Center d'art Moderne de Tétouan

The Center d'art moderne de Tétouan (CAMT) is a modern art museum in the city of Tétouan in northern Morocco .

location

The museum is located in the former station building of Tétouan on the southern edge of the old town ( medina ). It is accessible from rue Al Massira .

history

The former station building was completed in the neo-Moorish style in 1918 at the time of the Spanish protectorate over northern Morocco, which had existed since 1912 , but was given up in the 1950s. At the beginning of the 21st century it was converted into a museum by the architect Abdeslam Bencrimo as part of an Andalusian-Moroccan community initiative, which was opened in 2014.

collection

The collection is mainly dedicated to the works of Moroccan artists (painters, sculptors) from the province of Tétouan . The museum is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
