The Musée Mohammed VI d'art moderne et contemporain or Musée National d'Art Contemporain de Rabat ( Arabic متحف محمد السادس للفن الحديث والمعاصر, DMG Mathaf Muhammad as-sadistic li-l-Fann al-Hadith wa-l-mu'āṣir , Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⴰⵙⵏⵏⵉⵖⵜ ⵎⵓⵃⵎⵎⴰⴷ ⵡⵉⵙⵙ ⵚⴹⵉⵚ ⵏ ⵜⵥⵓⵕⵉ ⵜⴰⵜⵔⴰⵔⵜ Tasnniɣt Muhmmad scientific SDIS n Tzuri tatrart ) in the Moroccan capital Rabat devoted primarily of the modern and contemporary art in the country.

The museum building is located in the new town ( ville nouvelle ) of Rabat not far from the Archaeological Museum .

history

After about ten years of planning and construction by the architect Karim Chakor, the new museum building was opened in the presence of King Mohammed VI. inaugurated on October 7, 2014.

architecture

The two-storey, four-winged building, which surrounds an inner courtyard, was designed in the neo-Moorish style and executed completely symmetrically; The dominant design elements are the potentially infinite diamond panels ( sebkas ) resting on slender columns . This construction is continued in the interior of the reception hall.

exhibition

The museum presents paintings as well as sculptures by Moroccan and international artists of the 20th and 21st centuries in temporary exhibitions. A museum collection is under construction.
