The Centro Latinoamericano de Economía Humana (CLAEH) is a Uruguayan non-governmental organization . It is a non-profit organization ( Organización sin fines de lucro , OSFL).

History of origin

A group of young people founded the Equipos del Bien Común in 1947 and were influenced by Louis-Joseph Lebret's ideas regarding economics and humanism. These then dealt initially with the analysis of social realities, the results of which were finally recorded in the study "La familia en Montevideo" published in 1956. At a meeting of around 100 people from various Latin American countries in Montevideo in September 1957, the CLAEH was founded by members of the Equipos del Bien Común and groups from Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina and Colombia based on the same principles. The magazine was published in 1958Cuadernos Latinoamericanos de Economía Humana , which dealt with social science topics and is considered to be the pioneering social science journal of Uruguay.

The CLAEH, which is not bound by the state, partisan, church or other corporate bodies, is based in the Uruguayan capital Montevideo and has branches in Punta del Este and Tacuarembó . The organization is affiliated with a university institute founded in 1997, at which 29 medical professionals completed their training, which began in March 2006, for the first time in 2011 in Punta del Este. According to a ranking compiled by the University of Pennsylvania in 2009, CLAEH is one of the 25 leading think tanks in Latin America and the Caribbean, making it one of two Uruguayan organizations on this list alongside the Centro de Estudio de la Realidad Económica y Social (CERES) .

Club organization

The seven-person executive board was headed from 2010 to 2013 by President Romeo Pérez and Vice-President María Elena Martínez . In the period from 2013 to 2016, Adolfo Pérez Piera is now chairman, while Romeo Pérez is the vice-president of the now eight-member body. Other members include Pablo Mieres and Héctor Lescano . Leopoldo Font is General Director, Andrés Lalanne is Rector, Néstor Da Costa is Academic Director and Daniel Acuña Balestra is Administrative Director.

Others

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the CLAEH, the Uruguayan Post issued a special cancellation on September 4, 2007 .
