Centrum pro studium demokracie a kultury (German Center for the Study of Democracy and Culture ), abbreviated CDK , is a Czech independent organization. CDK was founded in Brno in August 1993 as an educational and cultural association that aims to contribute to the development of democratic political culture.

Tasks and positions

In terms of content, the activities of the center tie in with similar initiatives from the time before the social upheaval of 1989 . According to its own self-image, the organization represents conservative-liberal positions. She advocates the sustainability of Christian values ​​and the understanding between culture and politics. The Christian tradition is one of the cornerstones of European civilization, with the CDK preferring an open, ecumenical approach.

structure

The center is managed by a four-member council, whose decisions are implemented by the executive director. Organizationally, the center consists of the following sub-areas:

  • Institut pro politiku a kulturu (IPK) (German: Institute for Politics and Culture), which deals with the following topics: transformation of the democratization process, monitoring of the legislature of the European Union (since 2004 monthly reports), as well as research projects, seminars and conferences on Theme; the institute publishes the Internet magazine Revue Politika
  • Institut křesťanských studií (IKS) (German: Institute for Christian Studies), which has the following tasks: influencing history studies at Masaryk University in Brno, research projects and seminars, the publication of the journal Církevní dějiny (Church History)
  • Publishing house that coordinates and carries out the journalistic activities of both institutes of the center.

Journalistic activity

In addition to typographical work and the publication of the Zeitschrift zeitung , the association's own publishing house is primarily responsible for the centre's book series. The centre's journalistic activities include its own studies and commissioned books as well as numerous translations. A total of over 350 books have been published so far, which are divided into around 24 edition series.
