Ceolwald
Ceolwald is said to have been king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Mercia for a short time in 716 .
After King Ceolred's death , a Ceolwald (or Ceolwold) is said to have asserted claims to the throne. This is mentioned in Manuscript B and Manuscript C of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, as well as in a version of the so-called Worcester Regnal List .
However, it seems unlikely that this Ceolwald ever existed, and even if his reach for rule was successful, he could only have ruled for a very short time, since all sources date Æthelbald's accession to power in 716.
