Cereus pachyrhizus is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).
description
Cereus pachyrhizus grows shrubby to tree-shaped with large tuberous roots , is only rarely branched and reaches heights of 3 to 5 meters. The cylindrical, yellowish green to yellowish brown, only slightly glaucous shoots are rounded at their tips and have a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. There are six ribs that are strongly compressed at the sides and are up to 5 centimeters high. The circular areoles on it are far apart. The 10 to 13 pointed, awlish thorns emerging from them are brown to blackish brown. They are up to 3 inches long.
The up to 5 centimeters long fruits are ellipsoidal.
Distribution and systematics
Cereus pachyrhizus is common in Paraguay . The first description was published in 1903 by Karl Moritz Schumann .
