Cereus phatnospermus is a species of plant in the genus Cereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Cereus phatnospermus grows shrubby and usually prostrate . The long cylindrical, light green to brownish shoots are tapered towards their tips. They are 1 to 2 meters long and have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. There are four to five angular ribs . The large, woolly areoles on it are far apart. The strong, awl thorns are brown and gray over time. The single, straight central spine, which can also be missing, is up to 2.5 centimeters long. The five to six splaying radial spines are up to 1.5 centimeters long.

The white flowers are up to 12 inches long. The elliptical, red fruits reach lengths of up to 7 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cereus phatnospermus is common in Paraguay and Brazil , Mato Grosso do Sul . The first description was published in 1899 by Karl Moritz Schumann .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
